Assault case against Kerry Katona's estranged husband dropped
Prosecutors have dropped their assault case against the estranged husband of former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona.
George Kay, 36, of Cheshire, was arrested following an alleged bust-up at the couple's home in Crowborough, East Sussex, on September 19 last year.
He was charged by Sussex Police with assault by beating and possessing a banned weapon, relating to a Taser-style instrument which was disguised.
Kay, a labourer of Hollybank, Moore, Warrington, pleaded not guilty to both charges and was due to stand trial at Lewes Crown Court this week.
But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has now confirmed that it has told the court it is not presenting any evidence in the case.
A CPS spokesman said: "Following recent developments, the prosecution has informed the court that we will not be presenting any evidence in this case and the trial will not go ahead."
Former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Katona, 35, married ex-rugby league player Kay in 2014.
