Atlantis fans devastated by axe
Atlantis has been cancelled by the BBC after just two series and fans of the show have protested about the cut.
The fantasy series launched its second run in November, but a BBC spokesman told the Radio Times that the show - which stars Jack Donnelly, Robert Emms and Mark Addy as Jason, Pythagoras and Hercules- had been axed.
They said: "The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be recommissioned.
"We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through."
Fans tweeted their horror at the decision. One commented: "Last Friday: In The Flesh was cancelled. This Friday: Atlantis was cancelled. I'm scared about next Friday."
Another added: "Beyond devastated that @BBCAtlantis has been cancelled. Such a brilliant show with an equally brilliant cast. Big mistake, BBC. #Atlantis."
Some viewers found the news even more difficult to accept: "I can't believe Atlantis is cancelled this has ruined my evening/life."
And others railed against BBC bosses: "So Atlantis has now been cancelled... WHY DOES BBC LIKE TO TAKE GOOD THINGS AWAY FROM US?!"
