Three British TV productions were among the winners at a global awards ceremony.

The first International Emmy Kids Awards took place on Friday night in New York.

In previous years, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented one award for children's programming at its main International Emmy gala in November.

This year, Kids Awards were presented in six categories to recognise outstanding children's TV programming outside the US.

Winner in the animation category was The Amazing World of Gumball, a show created by Cartoon Network Europe about the misadventures of a blue cat in the weird and wonderful town of Elmore.

Newsround - My Autism and Me, which won in the factual category, depicts what it is like for a 13-year-old girl who is growing up with autism, while Lost Christmas, won the TV movie/mini-series category. An urban fairy tale set in Manchester, it tells how a mysterious stranger played by Eddie Izzard arrives on Christmas Eve to help heal a young boy with a tragic past.

Other awards went to programmes from Argentina, Japan and Norway.

Academy president and chief executive Bruce Paisner said: "With this new event solely dedicated to kids programming, the International Academy is proud to be the premiere global platform for excellence in children's television."
