Usually the baby is the star turn at a christening party.

But the family of one Londonderry tot got a huge surprise when Courteney Cox dropped by to say hello.

The former Friends star and her Snow Patrol rocker fiance Johnny McDaid were dining at Da Vinci's restaurant in the city when they were invited to join in the christening celebrations of one-month-old Ella McElhinney.

The beautiful actress flew into Derry on Wednesday ahead of McDaid's 38th birthday bash in his native city on Friday night. The party, which was held at the musician's Culmore home, was also attended by singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, who introduced the couple late last year.

One of the guests at the christening party in Da Vinci's was Britain's Got Talent finalist Jordan O'Keefe, who received a welcome boost when 50-year-old Cox told him she was aware of his music.

Sheeran, who sang a duet with Taylor Swift during last year's BGT final, met 20-year-old O'Keefe backstage at the time and the pair jammed together. The video of the performance of Sheeran's track Give Me Love, was later uploaded on YouTube and the pair stayed in touch.

O'Keefe, uncle to baby Ella, said he couldn't believe it when the Cougar Town star told him she'd been shown the video by her close friend Sheeran.

He said: "We were celebrating my baby niece's christening on Saturday afternoon at Da Vinci's when I popped outside for a smoke.

"I was surprised to see Courteney and Johnny McDaid and went over and started chatting to them.

"I introduced myself to them and told them I knew Ed Sheeran. Courteney then told me that Ed had shown her the video of us singing together.

"I'm a massive Friends star and was delighted when she said that, although I kept calling her Monica by mistake." Jordan then told them it was his niece's christening party and invited them in to meet his family.

"They came in and said hello to my brother and sister-in-law and met the baby too. It's pretty cool to think that at just one month, Ella has met such a big star as Courteney Cox. My mum was thrilled too and couldn't believe she was there.

"She was down-to-earth and friendly and said she really liked Derry."

The actress signed autographs and posed for photographs with fans before leaving Da Vinci's.

During her stay in Derry, Cox and McDaid were spotted looking in the window of Cooley's ring shop. Staff invited them into the shop and presented them with a pair of History of Derry rings. Cox also bought a pair of gold earrings for her daughter Coco, who accompanied the pair on the trip.

And fans took to social networking sites to say that they had spotted the couple shopping in Sainsbury's.
