Bafta Fellowship for Michael Palin

Michael Palin is to receive the Bafta Fellowship

Michael Palin is to be honoured with a Bafta Fellowship at the organisation's television awards next Sunday.

The actor and presenter made his name with the surreal comedy of Monty Python, but also enjoyed a successful acting career in shows including GBH and films like A Fish Called Wanda, as well as presenting a string of hit travel shows.

He said: "A Bafta Fellowship is a very high honour for anyone working in television. I'm well aware that any success I've had is down to teamwork. I've been blessed throughout my career with the inspiration and support of others. The Fellowship is for all of us."

Palin will pick up his award at the event, formally known as the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards, on Sunday May 12 at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Bafta chairman John Willis said: "Michael Palin, ex-Python, writer, presenter and Bafta-winning actor, whose amiable on-screen manner belies the seriousness of his craft, has made an incredible contribution to the medium over five decades.

"There are few individuals more worthy than Michael of the Fellowship, the highest honour the Academy can bestow."

The award ceremony will be hosted by Graham Norton.
