Baking champion Nadiya Hussain is also an expert butcher
Great British Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain has revealed she is skilled at animal slaughter.
The Luton-born baker, whose family comes from Bangladesh, has become a household name after winning the BBC One contest last year.
She told the Radio Times she had learned to slaughter animals in Bangladesh with her grandfather at the age of five.
She said: "Goats, sheep, cows, chickens; I can do all that. It was completely normal to us. I'm definitely not squeamish. Ducks as well."
The 31-year-old, who will explore her Bangladeshi background in new BBC series The Chronicles Of Nadiya, continued her butchery training in the UK.
Her father, who owned Indian restaurants, was "very experimental", she said.
"He would buy a whole sheep and give us a masterclass on how to butcher it... People got used to him. It was like, 'That's just my dad, walking in with a sheep on his shoulder'."
Mother-of-three Hussain, who was the first Muslim to win the Bake Off, has shrugged off any pressure to "represent" her community.
"I'm just me," she said. "I'm a part of the Bangladeshi community, I'm a part of the Muslim community, I'm British.
"But my aim isn't to represent any of those communities, my aim is to represent me, and the best job and the most important job that I do is being a mum - and if I can nail that then I'm happy."
