Baldwin: I'm a better dad now

Alec Baldwin is making up for past fatherhood mistakes with his little girl.

The actor and wife Hilaria welcomed little Carmen Gabriela into the world last week.

The 30 Rock actor spoke to People following the birth and was reflective about fatherhood.

"It's a second chance for me in a way. Everybody knows I had a pretty unpleasant custody battle for Ireland," he said.

17-year-old Ireland is his daughter with actress ex-wife Kim Basinger.

Alec faced a public backlash when a voicemail he'd left an 11-year-old Ireland, calling her "a rude thoughtless pig", was leaked to the press while he was fighting a custody battle.

Following the message, Alec was banned by a court from seeing his young daughter.

Ireland and Alec now have a good relationship, but he's determined not to make the same mistakes this time around.

"We just want things to be easy, to be nice," he explained.

"She sleeps like a rock all day. And at night she's like, 'Let's have a conference.'"

His wife Hilaria, 29, is a first-time mum and is enjoying spending time with her little girl.

The yoga instructor, who also presents on ExtraTV, went back to her TV correspondent job just a week after giving birth.

But that doesn't mean she hasn't been lavishing time on her newborn.

"I knew I was going to love her a lot, but it's incredible how deeply," she said.

"But now I'm getting to the point where if I don't sleep, I'm going to start walking into walls."
