Barlow bemused as second act axed
Gary Barlow has expressed his bewilderment after another of his acts was axed from The X Factor.
Melanie Masson, 44, was given the boot from the talent show after the judges' vote went to deadlock again.
Gary was left reeling after losing two contestants from his over-28s category in as many weeks of the live stages of the competition. He posted a message online after the show saying: "What's happening out there?"
He and Nicole Scherzinger voted to save Melanie, but Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh saved boyband District 3.
Host Dermot O'Leary was forced to reveal the public vote again and Melanie was sent home after performing Stay With Me.
After the result was announced, Gary said he was "gutted" and told viewers: "For me, Melanie is one of the best singers in the competition. I'm so disappointed."
Last weekend the Take That star stormed off the stage when another of his acts, Carolynne Poole, was axed as a result of another deadlock when Louis struggled to make up his mind. The incident led to a frosty stand-off between Louis and Gary although they went on to bury the hatchet by shaking hands during Saturday's edition.
Big-voiced Melanie, a mother of two who runs a music class for under-fives under the name Fairy Flutterbye, is married to Scottish actor Forbes Masson. Along with Alan Cumming, he co-wrote and starred in BBC Two series The High Life.
After hearing the result, she said: "I have absolutely enjoyed every single second of being here and the opportunities it has brought to work with Gary, to work with everybody. It's just been the best experience, I've loved it."
