Barrymore’s ‘awkward journey’
Drew Barrymore discusses the joys of living without regret.
The 39-year-old actress has lived out some of her lowest moments in the public eye, including entering rehab at age 13, as well as two high-profile divorces.
But now happily married to art dealer Will Kopelman and with two young daughters, the star insists she wouldn’t change a thing.
“I love the wonderful and awkward journey that I’ve been on - it’s forced me to grow so much,” she told America’s OK! magazine.
“You learn to draw on the good and the bad times. One thing I’ve learned is to take a deep breath before reacting to something. That’s a big change that’s helped me get where I am," she said.
Drew and Will married in June 2012. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Olive, three months later, and second daughter, Frankie, this April.
And Drew admits there’s nothing more splendid than taking time out to spend with her family. These days, she’s far less concerned about how the media dissects her life.
“I make sure to spend time with my husband and take a few hours for myself, and the rest of my time is devoted to my daughters,” she said.
“I also don’t pressure myself to be the perfect mother, because you shouldn’t put yourself under that kind of stress. I make lists of the things I have to do, so I have a plan I can stick to without feeling frantic. My husband’s made me aware that being calm is important,” she said.
