Bear Grylls says he's confident he can motivate others with the lessons he's learned - despite having some out-of-the-ordinary experiences.

The adventurer had a career in the Army's Special Forces before going on to make TV series like Born Survivor.

"I think what I've learnt about tackling and approaching life's problems and set-backs could help motivate anyone," Bear, who shares his experiences in new book A Survival Guide For Life, said.

He admitted: "I often feel I've let myself down and hold my head in my hands and think, 'God, why did I do that?', but that's sometimes the penalty of not living a safe life.

"But mistakes help you grow and I learn from them and endeavour not to repeat them."

He added: "I believe that the ultimate success in the game of life can never come from money amassed, power or status attained, or fame."

:: A Survival Guide For Life by Bear Grylls is published by Bantam Press, priced £18.99. Available now.

Horoscopes

Your Horoscopes by Russell Grant

Aries:

You must be decisive. Don't leave your Fate in the hands of others. If you need more money, ask for a raise. Are you dissatisfied with a relationship? Issue an ultimatum. Are you perturbed by an ethical matter? Speak on behalf of justice. People will be uncomfortable with your dramatic behaviour, but they will respond to it. Waiting for a miracle to arrive simply isn't wise. When you want to make a change, you have to take action, even at the risk of being unpopular.More
