Beckham backs Active Kids scheme

David Beckham stressed the importance of healthy eating for youngsters as he launched a new supermarket voucher scheme which aims to help children lead more active lifestyles.

The retired football star and Paralympian Ellie Simmonds have got behind Sainsbury's latest Active Kids voucher collection scheme.

The father-of-four encouraged people to take part in the initiative, which sees consumers earn vouchers as they shop. Schools, nurseries, Scout and Guide groups and sports clubs can then redeem the vouchers for a range of cookery and sporting equipment.

"Helping kids understand why being active and eating healthily is really important," said the star.

"There are more ways than ever for schools, groups and clubs to use their Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers - with loads of cooking and exercise equipment available - it's time to get collecting."
