Ben Miller leads new BBC drama
Ben Miller has landed a role as a detective in a new BBC TV drama set on a Caribbean island.
The star - best known for his work with comedy partner Alexander Armstrong - will head the cast in an eight-part series Death In Paradise.
The programme also marks a pioneering partnership with French broadcaster France Televisions, the first time the BBC has developed a drama with the state-owned company.
Ben - who has also appeared in ITV1's Primeval - will star alongside French actress Sara Martins, whose roles have included the film Tell No One.
The BBC One series follows a British Detective Inspector Richard Poole (Miller) who is posted to the Caribbean island of Sainte Marie - despite his hatred of sun, sea and sand.
His investigation of the murder of another policeman leads him to work with local Camille (Martins).
Ben said: "Death In Paradise is my dream job - a fascinating character, great scripts, superb cast and shooting in the Caribbean with French catering."
Executive producer Tony Jordan said: "Filmed in the Caribbean and starring Ben Miller alongside sexy French siren Sara Martins, I think our winters are about to get a little hotter."
The collaboration between the British and French broadcasters is taking place at all stages - including scriptwriting, casting and production.
Filming - which begins in Guadeloupe this month - will be done in English and it will be dubbed for the French audience.
