Benedict’s Cumber-baby confirmed
Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancée Sophie Hunter are indeed expecting a child, his reps have told.
The 38-year-old Sherlock star announced his engagement to the director last November, and in the midst of their wedding planning it was already rumoured this week that they’re expecting. Now the actor’s reps have confirmed as much.
"I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child," the representative told Us Weekly. "They are both over the moon."
Page Six had previously reported there was a baby on the way, writing that their sources told them the couple were “delighted and excited” about the news.
The outlet also claimed Benedict and Sophie are now planning to tie the knot sooner than they had originally planned on account of the news.
“Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it,” an insider told them.
“They are also quietly planning to marry in early spring.”
Benedict had spoken earlier about how eager his mother was for he and Sophie to give her grandchildren. Following the engagement news, People.com had told him his fans were waiting for news of a “Cumber-baby”.
“Oh my God,” Benedict said in response. “Well, my mother is also waiting for Cumber-babies.”
The famed actor can currently be seen starring in The Imitation Game. He’s nominated for the best actor award in the Golden Globes, set to take place this coming weekend. Benedict plays Alan Turing, a computer scientist who was a key figure in breaking Nazi Germany’s Enigma code before later being prosecuted for homosexuality.
