Bestival plans to leave 13-year home on Isle of Wight for Dorset sister site

Organisers of Bestival have announced they are planning to move the event from its home of 13 years on the Isle of Wight.

Event creator Rob da Bank has applied for permission to hold next year's event at Lulworth Castle in Dorset - the site used for sister festival Camp Bestival.

Permission is being sought from Purbeck Council, which has begun a 28-day consultation period.

Rob da Bank said: "Hot off the press - yes, Bestival is moving!

"We can confirm we have submitted a licence application for a new site at the Lulworth Estate in Dorset and we're super excited about our shiny new Bestival adventure.

"We have an incredible line-up, headliners confirmed and ridiculous new stages and installations coming your way in 2017."

Dave Grindle, operations director of event production company Loud Sound, said: "Taking Bestival to a new site is an exciting undertaking for everybody involved.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for Loud Sound to manage the logistics of two different shows at the Lulworth Estate.

"The extensive knowledge we've gained of the site and the surrounding area over the past decade will help us deliver two unique events while minimising any disturbance to local residents."

After the 2016 event, Rob da Bank expressed his frustration. He said: "As ever, we're digesting all your feedback and noting all down... We listen to all the good and bad and it's ranged from the best weekend of your lives, to some mixed responses for lots of reasons!

"Bestival was obviously a slightly different beast this year.

"Festival land has changed a lot, more competition, a wobbly economy etc, and for whatever reason many festivals have not sold well.

"We did 40,000, which resulted in a more compact boutique vibe and going back to our roots.

"But, by my own high standards, sound and tent spec was not always what we would have wanted it to be - we can assure anyone coming back in 2017, this will be rectified.

"As far as the festival market goes, we can't dictate what will happen, but we can promise that Bestival will be back to its very high standards next year and we will continue to listen to you and use that feedback to improve every year."

Family event Camp Bestival will be holding its 10th event at the Lulworth Estate next year with Mark Ronson already announced as the first headliner.
