Billy Ray defends Miley
Billy Ray Cyrus says Miley's happiness comes first.
The 52-year-old former country music star watched his daughter on America's Today show Monday morning and says it struck an emotional chord when she revealed she's the happiest she's ever been.
Asked by host Matt Lauer what her five-year plan is, Miley shared: "My plan is focussing on right now and continuing what I'm doing because I'm the happiest I've ever been in my whole life. So I'm really happy to be here."
Billy Ray shortly thereafter tweeted his support.
"Wanna know how I feel as a Father? Just heard my daughter say @MileyCyrus 'I'm the happiest I've ever been in my whole life'. All I ever wanted," he wrote (sic).
Miley also mentioned her parents Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus during the interview. The 20-year-old singer said in the wake of her most controversial performances they have always supported her.
"For me, my parents have always just been about being really who you are and figuring that out," Miley explained. "And what's good about that is I trust them a lot. I can go to them with pretty much anything."
Miley insisted it's that trust that enables her to share what she's feeling without fearing judgment. The Wrecking Ball singer said she's never been afraid to talk to the pair no matter what's happening in her life.
"There's been a lot of kids who have to hide things from their parents that I don't have too because my parents are just accepting and that's what real love is," she said.
