Blake Lively's new baby a girl

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have become parents to a baby girl.

The Hollywood stars had their first child just before the new year, at the Westchester Medical Centre near their home in Bedford, New York, but the sex and name of the baby was not made public.

Now E! News has reported that the couple - whose baby arrived earlier than expected - have had a girl.

A source, described as a family member, was quoted as saying: "They're all doing really well. They're obviously loving being new parents."

Ryan previously told how the couple did not know the sex of their unborn child, saying: "I'm just excited about having a buddy."

The news came as a tweet from a user claiming to work at the medical centre where the baby was born appeared to have revealed the tot's name - Violet.

But Page Six reported that while sources had confirmed that the couple had become parents to a girl, they had not confirmed any name.

Gossip Girl actress Blake met Ryan on the set of 2011 superhero movie Green Lantern and they married in September 2012.
