Blanchett breaks silence on adoption
Cate Blanchett thinks it's "extraordinary" she and husband Andrew Upton now have a fourth child.
News broke earlier this month that the 45-year-old actress and her husband Andrew Upton had added to their family with little Edith Vivian Patricia Upton. They already have sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, ten, and six-year-old Ignatius together.
The star had kept quiet about their new addition, but now Cate has gushed about how lovely it is to have a daughter.
“There’s a lot of children out there who don’t have the good fortune that our biological children do, so it’s wonderful,” she told Sky News.
“It’s wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold... We’re besotted.
“Fourth time around, it’s extraordinary.”
It's thought Cate was starting to feel rather outnumbered with so many men in the house. According to reports, she believed a little girl would combat that nicely.
“They wanted another baby, and especially wanted a girl to even out the household,” a source told Us Weekly magazine.
However, previously it sounded as though the star had given up on ever having a daughter.
“It’s true you do get a bit demented [with three boys],” she laughed to W magazine. “The chaos of it is great.
“Everyone says, ‘Oh, you must have [been trying] to have a girl.’ If the next one was a boy, then that’s just our lot!”
