Blue Peter in high-tech appeal
Blue Peter is to appeal to a new generation of "tech savvy" pre-teens in a new series.
The long-running children's show will broadcast for the first time from the BBC North headquarters in Salford with an item on smartphones and apps of interest to children.
Current Blue Peter dog, Barney, an Irish setter dachshund cross, will remain part of the show but Lucy, the golden retriever who died earlier this year, is not being replaced.
Blue Peter's two cats, Socks and Cookie, and Shelley the tortoise will still feature but are not moving to Salford.
The new show features a redesigned high-tech set and a rooftop Blue Peter garden. By next year, viewers will be able to interact with celebrities and phone in via a webcam and email.
