Hugh Bonneville has met his match - as the actor was introduced to his new wax figure.

The 50-year-old, popularly known for his role as Downton's Lord Grantham, was at Madame Tussauds in London to come face to face with his double.

Bonneville, also known for his portrayal of Ian Fletcher in the BBC sitcoms Twenty Twelve and W1A, said: "It's certainly spooky to see yourself in three dimensions like this. The detail is incredible and scarily accurate.

"Being made of wax, at least my new understudy won't ever be accused of giving a wooden performance."

The figure - which has taken a team of 24 a month to build at a cost of £150,000 - has been styled in a black tie outfit, befitting a member of the aristocracy.

And it has been placed among the A-list stars in the party area such as Kate Winslet, with whom he appeared in Iris and George Clooney, his director and co-star for The Monuments Men.

Ben Sweet, general manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: "Hugh is probably the most famous 'Lord' in the world without actually being a peer of the realm. We know Downton fans and the public at large will love measuring up to him."
