Bradley Cooper: De Niro was family favourite

Bradley Cooper "felt a connection" with co-star Robert De Niro because his family used to watch the acting legend's movies together.

The Hollywood hunk is portraying De Niro's son in new film Silver Linings Playbook and admitted it was surreal sharing scenes with his childhood idol.

The memories have a bittersweet meaning for Cooper, whose own father passed away in January 2011.

"I certainly felt a connection to Robert De Niro based on how big a part he played in my family growing up, because we were watching his movies together. So it felt a real odd thing that I'm acting with the guy that my father and I used to watch and talk about - and he is playing my father. It's crazy," he told UK TV show Daybreak.

Copper previously starred alongside De Niro in 2011's Limitless.

Cooper also revealed his unimpressive first steps into acting.

When asked about his break into TV work, referring to his appearance on hit show Sex and the City, he revealed his first roles as an actor were in fact small parts in TV adverts.

"We're talking about the Dell's computer commercial that I was an extra in? Because that was my first in! Or the Spanish telecommunications phone commercial? Let's roll the clip!" he laughed.
