Brandon Flowers doesn't think he'll ever be as "important" as some of the people he looks up to.
Earlier this year he received the Idol prize at the annual Q Awards and it's got him thinking about what makes some stars stand out. Although he's sure some of his fans think he is inspirational, it's not something Brandon can see in himself.
"I feel it sometimes. But how could I ever feel as important as they do? I could never feel like that, as they did to me," he told Q magazine.
Brandon is certain about the kind of people who are really worthy of music fans' admiration. He couldn't get enough of many rock stars when he was growing up and had their images plastered all over his bedroom.
"Someone you want to put a poster of on your wall," he replied, when asked what makes a good idol. "For me growing up it was Robert Smith, David Bowie and Morrissey - those were the people on my wall. All of them are strong figures, strong frontmen. There's something tangible about their vibe."
Brandon's band The Killers released their album Battle Born this year. Their record label encouraged them to embrace social media to promote it, which the frontman remains sceptical about.
"We're just dipping our toes," Brandon said. "We're not letting people know we're going to be in Wagamama in 20 minutes. We like to use our brainpower for our songs."
