Brendan Cole replaced on Strictly as he recovers from infection
Gorka Marquez has stepped in to partner up with singer Anastacia on Strictly Come Dancing.
Brendan Cole has been temporarily replaced on Strictly Come Dancing as he struggles to recover from a lung infection.
The 40-year-old had to take himself to hospital last Saturday (15Oct16) after he was struggling to breathe, and was diagnosed with a lung infection. However, he battled through the illness to perform alongside Anastacia on Saturday night's show, with the pair narrowly missing out on being voted off on Sunday night's show.
But now Brendan is being given some proper time to recover from his infection, with fellow professional Gorka Marquez - the former partner of EastEnders actress Tameka Empson, the second celebrity voted off this series - stepping in to take his place.
Gorka will be partnering Anastacia in rehearsals for next weekend's programmes, with doctors assessing Brendan on Friday (21Oct16) to see whether or not he is well enough to perform.
If they decide he is not, Gorka will perform the live routine with Anastacia on Saturday's show.
Brendan revealed the news on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Tuesday night (18Oct16), explaining: "'I'll let you into a little secret. We have the lovely Gorka stepping in for me for a few days.
"I don't know how happy I am about it - he's Spanish, he's good looking and has a body which is pretty much the best on the show."
Joining in on the joke, Anastacia assured Brendan that her rehearsals with Gorka to date have been "awful" and she "hadn't noticed" Gorka's fine physique, to which Brendan replied: "I kind of have the feeling it's going to go downhill for me from here."
Brendan worried fans when he took to Twitter on Saturday morning to inform them of his health struggles.
"#NHS Doc's, Nurses & staff are phenomenal. Thank you for looking after me in the wee hours. Lung infection now under control so thank you," he wrote.
"...had to take myself to A&E as I couldn't breath very well so not enough oxogen (sic) getting through. Incredible care, cannot thank enough #NHS.
"...all fine for tonight though. Might just be a little coughing and spluttering during our rumba! #Strictly."
