Britney Spears' hands reportedly "look pretty scary" without professional help.

The 30-year-old pop star is said to have an extreme nervous habit.

Britney digs into her fingers and mangles them with her teeth.

"Not only does she bite her nails until there's almost nothing left, but she also picks at the cuticles," a source told Star magazine.

"Without her fake nails, her hands look pretty scary."

The media has called attention to the poor condition of Britney's hands and feet before.

Apparently the star is almost never keen on meeting with a manicurist.

"Britney is terrified of manicures, and this is only a new thing," the source revealed.

Britney, who is still under conservatorship following a mental breakdown in 2008, is said to have morbid thoughts about manicures.

The tools that are used in the process are absolutely terrifying to the star.

"She can't stand having someone dig around her nails with scissors," the source said.
