Brolin the baker
Josh Brolin was enthusiastic about pie-baking for new film Labor Day.
The actor stars as an escaped convict who falls in love with an agoraphobic single mother played by Kate Winslet in Jason Reitman's Labor Day.
According to the actress, Josh was determined to master the art of pie-baking for a scene they shared together, and he became quite the culinary master.
"I have to hand it to Josh, he really did want to make sure he was good at pie making, and he was. He baked at least five pies a week throughout the entire shoot," Kate told Deadline.
"He'd get up really early and bake at 5 in the morning, and he would bring them to work. A pie would appear on the table - there was another one of Josh's pies.
"Toward the end of the shoot, it was like, "Dude, you really need to stop now." But he bakes an amazing pie," she laughed of her dedicated co-star.
Joyce Maynard, who wrote the 2009 coming-of-age novel on which the movie is based, was elated by Josh's enthusiasm.
But Kate admitted she felt hindered due to her own culinary background.
"For someone who can be a little controlling in the kitchen, it was a bit of a challenge," she confessed.
Labor Day is scheduled for US release next month.
