CSI: New York star AJ Buckley wishes he could have taken his lab coat from the show's set.

The 35-year-old actor, who plays lab technician Adam Ross on the crime procedural drama, admitted he wanted to take a souvenir once filming on the ninth series had ended, but missed his opportunity when the show was given the axe in May.

"I didn't get anything, just pictures from over the years. I wanted to take my super-powered lab coat," he said.

"I think that stuff is all gone now. The day that the show was cancelled, everything was packed up and gone so it's all but a memory now. But just to say that I was part of something for that amount of time was special."

AJ, who joined the show in 2005, revealed the final season - now showing on Channel 5 - will explore each character's backstory in more detail, unlike previous seasons.

"I think what is really cool is that everybody gets their own episode. We go into a day in the lives of these characters and what they do," he said.

"That's probably the episode I am most proud of. Normally, my character is just there to give information and then the story would move on. But in this one, viewers get to meet my father and they can see why Adam has always been so jumpy around authority figures. And Adam gets a girlfriend, who doesn't die or disappear.

"It's a really emotionally charged episode. I got to sink my teeth into some bare emotions and have some fun with his backstory," he added.

The ninth and final series of CSI: New York continues on Channel 5 on Tuesday nights.
