Cannon “praying” for ID thief

Nick Cannon is praying for the person who used his identity in a jewellery theft.

The 33-year-old TV star says he recently became tangled in an ID theft scheme, when a man claimed to be the star’s employee in order to steal thousands of dollars’ worth of Fred Segal jewellery.

The culprit allegedly fooled employees at the Santa Monica, California store and posed as Nick’s bodyguard, arranging a meet at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel and convincing staff that Nick was upstairs in a room.

“That’s the sacrifices we make being celebrities and being in the public eye, they can just grab your name go online and do whatever they want to do. Or say they’re part of your crew. I pray for those tortured souls, real talk. Someone’s got to do that, that’s the fairest thing,” Nick told TMZ.

This isn’t the first time Nick has been a victim of fraud. He admits he’s used to people ripping off his name for financial gain.

“It’s crazy, but a lot of crazy stuff has happened people have stolen my identity before, people have charged over $200,000 on my AMX [card]. There’s all type of stuff.

“Let me talk to all the jewellers out there, if I want some jewellery I’m going to call you directly,” he laughed (sic).

A police investigation is ongoing.
