Carr and Whitehall line up for wins

Alan Carr, Jack Whitehall and Miranda Hart are among the comedians nominated to win at this year's British Comedy Awards.

The three stars have nominations in two categories each, while Adam Hills' The Last Leg is out in front with three nominations, Channel 4 has revealed.

NHS sitcom Getting On also has three nominations for the programme and for its stars Jo Brand and Vicki Pepperdine.

Joining Miranda, Jo and Vicki in the shortlist for best comedy actress is Fresh Meat's Zawe Ashton, while Jack, Greg Davies, David Mitchell and Kevin Eldon will fight it out for best comedy actor.

The nominations for best new comedy are Count Arthur Strong, Cuckoo, Plebs and Psychobitches.

On the night there will also be three special awards handed out - the British Comedy Outstanding Achievement Award, the Writers' Guild Of Great Britain Award and the award for International Achievement.

The British Comedy Awards will be shown live on Channel 4 on December 12.
