Channing Tatum told his wife he was the Sexiest Man Alive after being inspired by "sexy skunk musk".

Jenna Dewan-Tatum revealed the unusual aroma that prompted her hunky husband to tell her he'd won People magazine's title.

The American actress recalled how the unsexy encounter between them came about.

"Our dogs were being skunked every other night for about two months straight, so this was a very normal occurrence, to be kneeling in front of the bathtub washing our dogs," the actress told People.

"But he was like, 'Oh, by the way, I was named People's Sexiest Man Alive...I'm not quite sure why the skunk smell made him think about it. Maybe it was the fact that it was the last thing something the Sexiest Man Alive would be doing. But I don't know. Maybe it was the sexy skunk musk that made him think of it."

Yesterday 32-year-old Channing found out he had been honoured with the flattering title, beating hunks such as Ryan Gosling and David Beckham.

Previous studs to have been awarded the title of Sexiest Man include Jonny Depp and Jude Law, with Bradley Cooper bagging the honour last year.

However Jenna, 31, has always believed Channing is deserving of the accolade.

"I think it's an honour, because it's a great league of people that have been given this honour before him," she gushed.

"That's special because it says he's achieved so much in his career and in his life that makes this award a possibility. But he's always been the Sexiest Man Alive to me."
