Chaz Bono has spoken about why he has been single for most of his adult life.

Chaz Bono is convinced he has a terrible tendency to “repel” women who might be interested in a romantic engagement.

The 46-year-old is a transgender man, as he was born as a daughter named Chastity to parents Sonny Bono and Cher.

Chad has yet to find a life partner and he believes the reason for his status as a bachelor is down to a personality problem.

“I seem to repel women that I am attracted to,” he told the New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l, noting going out on a date is an overly complicated process for him. “I haven't really been dating and I do think that women have a different idea when you ask them out for a date than what it actually is. That is my theory, which is, ‘I find you interesting and would like to get to know you better.’ But I think they think it is more than that somehow.”

But Chaz doesn’t feel desperately alone or isolated after splitting with girlfriend Jennifer Elia in 2011.

He appreciates having spent so much time by himself over an extended period.

“I have been single for four years, which has been a great thing and (it's) great to have time to myself,” he noted.

Chaz began his transition from a female into a male in 2008. His gender reassignment was complete within two years and in May 2010 a California court granted Chaz’s requests for a legal name and gender change.

But even though he has undergone a great physical transformation, Chaz doesn’t feel like his mind has altered extensively.

“I have always been in a male mentality,” he said. “Other than that mentally things haven't changed that much. Unfortunately I don't have any insight into women. I wish I did have more, but I really don't.”
