Chris Pratt: I wanted to be center of attention
Chris Pratt couldn't believe how much attention his brother got after he starred in a play as a kid, so he decided to pursue acting.
The 35-year-old star has appeared in many major releases, including Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. He has harboured dreams of making it on the big screen for many years, recalling the effect seeing his sibling on stage had on him as a kid.
"When I was very young, I saw my brother do a play - Boo Bear in this Christmas special," he told Men's Fitness magazine. "My dad did his make-up, my mom cried and he was a huge star in our family for a year. So I decided that's where it's at, that's what I want to do."
From then on, Chris took an active role in anything to do with acting at school. That saw him goofing around in front of his class a lot and making sure he was always the star performer.
"I was always the class clown. I was in the class in charge of putting on the assemblies. Of course, I'd make myself the star, ripping off SNL sketches or doing bits from movies," he laughed. "We'd do song and dance numbers. We did Thriller and Grease."
Nowadays Chris takes his job more seriously, but still realises there are a lot of fun things which come with it. He often has to bulk up for roles which isn't always that enjoyable, but it's offset by how great it is to meet fans who love his performances. He's attended sci-fi movie event Comic-Con in the past, including to promote Guardians of the Galaxy last year. At first he wasn't sure what it would be like as he'd heard so many strange stories, but he was pleasantly surprised.
"I was very nervous going to my first Comic-Con. I associated fanatic fans with haters. But it's really not the case," he enthused. "They're so enthusiastic to support it. What they want is to hang out and ask you questions and impress you with their knowledge and passion."
