Claire Danes' Easter failure

Claire Danes and her family create an Easter egg book every year, with the honour of getting the cover akin to landing the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover.

Claire Danes felt like a "total failure" when she didn't get her son a live bunny rabbit this Easter.

The 36-year-old actress is mother to three-year-old son Cyrus with husband Hugh Dancy. When it came to celebrating this Easter weekend (26-27Mar16), Claire thought she had prepared well enough, but her little boy was left somewhat disappointed when she failed to provide a live Easter Bunny.

"He was so sweet. I went to get him in the morning and I’m so much more excited than he is," Homeland star Claire laughed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I was like, ‘I think the bunny rabbit came, the Easter Bunny came last night, do you want to go and check it out?’ And he was like, (baby voice) ‘I just want to hold a little bunny in my hand’. And my heart just went (explode). I also felt like a total failure. I was like ‘I’ve got lots, lots of chocolate!’ "

When it comes to Easter, Claire, Hugh and their family have a somewhat unusual way of marking the occasion; they compete with innovative eggs, all with the hope of landing the cover of their annual Easter egg book.

"Easter’s a major deal in our household. We dye eggs and we use very unusual materials to make rather avant-garde, progressive, high concept eggs. My friends and family gather around and make weird ass eggs. We display them," she admitted. "The first year we did it we were so proud of our eggs that we put them on the mantelpiece and then like come June, it was not so pleasant.

"So now we what do is that Hugh takes a photo of each egg and we compile a book out of it. And landing the cover is a big deal. It’s like Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. And he decides (who gets the cover). I don’t even get to know. He has all the power!"
