Clooney and Damon at council gym

George Clooney and Matt Damon surprised fitness fans - when they turned up at a council gym.

According to the Daily Mirror, Matt, 42, spent an hour on the weights and returned the following day with George, 52, and their bodyguards to play basketball.

Liane Shadrack, manager of the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, in Cambridge, was quoted as saying: "Members found it a bit distracting and maybe didn't work out to their full potential."

The Hollywood stars are in Britain while filming war movie The Monuments Men at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

George has written the screenplay and is directing the film, and is also playing the role of George Stout alongside Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray and Hugh Bonneville.

Matt plays the lead role of James Rorimer in the film, which is based on the book Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves And The Greatest Treasure Hunt In History by Robert M Edsel.

The film tells the story of a crew of art historians and museum curators who unite to recover works of art stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys them.
