Clooney and fiancée congratulated
George Clooney’s fiancé Amal Alamuddin has been congratulated on her engagement by her London law firm.
Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin was officially congratulated on her engagement to the Hollywood actor in a statement made by her company on Monday afternoon. Beirut-born, Oxford University-educated Amal is a member of the Doughty Street Chambers’ international law team.
“The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married,” the firm said in a statement on Monday.
The firm’s chief executive Robin Jackson also added a personal touch. “She brings a bright light to everything she is involved in,” he said. “And I am so delighted at her happy news.”
The 36-year-old future bride has a high-profile client list at the firm, including working with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Syria, ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and WikLeaks founder Julian Assange during his fight against extradition to Sweden.
Sources close to George and Amal say that the couple plan on keeping things “very low-key” and are yet to make any wedding plans. Even though the couple is yet to confirm their engagement, George’s mother Nina has expressed her excitement over the news to the media.
“You can say I’m extremely happy, Amal’s a lovely girl,” she told the British newspaper The Daily Mail. “We weren’t at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn’t be happier for them.”
George was previously married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993 and had highly-publicised relationships with Elisabetta Canalis and Stacy Keibler. He was also most recently linked with model Monika Jakisic last Fall.
