Clooney: Bullock deserves buzz

Sandra Bullock deserves every bit of success she is receiving at the moment, says George Clooney.

The pair are good friends and star in the new movie Gravity, about an astronaut and medical engineer who are stranded in space. It's already generating Oscar buzz for Sandra, which George says is thoroughly deserved.

"Isn't she great? I've known Sandy for – she doesn't want me to say – over 25 years," he told People magazine.

"She's a really dear friend. So watching how this year has gone for her – and she's had tough years before – has been great."

Sandra won the best actress Academy Award in 2010 for The Blind Side, but shortly afterwards her personal life went into freefall when it was revealed her husband Jesse James had been unfaithful multiple times.

They split up, after which Sandra confirmed they had secretly been in the process of adopting a baby boy called Louis. She continued with the plan and is now mother to the three-and-a-half-year-old tot.

The 49-year-old star enjoys bringing her son to set where possible and has spoken of how touched she was when staff on Gravity baby-proofed the shoot so he could be there.

George was quizzed about how Sandra copes with her demanding job and being a mom and gave a typically jokey answer.

"I don't balance motherhood. I got a kid here, a drink here," he laughed. "She does it all. She's a great mom."

George has a strong relationship with Louis too. Sandra and her son have stayed at the Hollywood star's home in Lake Como, Italy, along with Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón. George lives near Rande Gerber and his wife Cindy Crawford, with Louis thrilled to have so many men around.

"The cute little anecdote is that he went to me and said, 'Where's George and Rande?'" Sandra previously explained. "I said, 'I don't know!' And he said, 'I need them.' So we went and found them, and they had man time. And I sort of stood off to the side and waited for them to finish. Then I was allowed to take him back."
