Clooney ‘selects best man’
George Clooney has reportedly chosen Matt Damon to be best man at his upcoming wedding to Amal Alamuddin.
The 53-year-old actor is currently engaged to wed 36-year-old lawyer Amal Alamuddin and it is expected they will tie the knot this fall.
Although George is said to be best friends with Brad Pitt, apparently he chose Matt Damon to be the groom’s chief attendant.
“A lot of people thought Brad was a certainty to be George’s best man as they have been such good friends for years. But he is probably even closer to Matt,” a source explained to British newspaper The Sun.
“Besides, many years ago, during one drunken night together, George made a promise to Matt that he would make him his best man if he ever got married – so Matt called to claim his prize.”
Brad is said to be elated for his friend regardless.
And the star even cracked jokes when he heard of the Gravity actor’s final best man selection.
“Brad took the news with good grace – but he did say he’d heckle Matt during his speech,” the insider said.
It’s rumoured George will still serve as best man in Brad’s wedding to his longtime fiancé Angelina Jolie.
The Monuments Men star and his 36-year-old fiancée are reportedly planning a September wedding. The ceremony is thought to be taking place at George’s home in Lake Como, Italy, and according to a source, the couple are hoping their offspring will already be on its way by then.
“[They are trying] and don’t care whether she’s a pregnant bride,” an insider told the American edition of OK! magazine recently.
“George never wanted to have kids before, but he knew right away that Amal would be the perfect mother.”
