Clooney's 'karaoke engagement party'

George Clooney's friends apparently busted out some tunes at his engagement party in Malibu last night.

The 53-year-old actor caused widespread surprise by proposing to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin last month. The couple celebrated their impending marriage with an intimate party in Malibu yesterday, which was held at Cafe Habana. The venue is owned by George's friend and business partner Rande Gerber, with his wife Cindy Crawford and U2 rockers Bono and The Edge in attendance.

The group enjoyed a meal on the patio at the restaurant and were seen drinking wine and tequila. According to US magazine People, several of them then launched into their own renditions on some popular tunes.

"After the toast, George and his fiancée were all over each other," an insider explained. "Lots of hugging."

Amal has also given the first proper glimpses of her engagement ring, which is said to be seven carats and worth around £450,000. George is said to have helped design the piece, which features a large square-cut diamond on a simple plain band.

After the party, the Hollywood heartthrob and his 36-year-old bride-to-be left together, using a limousine to get the presents and flowers they had received from friends home.

"He has found someone who is as smart as he is and who is her own independent woman," a friend of the star's told the publication. "Amal seems to be the best fit for him he's ever had."

At the moment it's not been confirmed when George and Amal will exchange vows, although there have been reports the nuptials could take place in September. This will be the star's second union - he was married to Talia Balsam between 1989 and 1993 - and he apparently wants everything to be perfect.

"They're busy planning the wedding, which will be later this year. As well as having ceremonies in both London and Los Angeles, they'll also say their vows at Lake Como in Italy, where George has a luxury home," an insider indulged to British magazine Look. "He's set his heart on making it a dream day, which is all about celebrating their love. He says he feels very honoured to have found Amal, and everyone in his life agrees - she's most definitely 'The One'."
