Clooney’s ‘political plans’

George Clooney is reportedly considering a run for office.

The 53-year-old actor was a staunch supporter of US President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012 and is a known humanitarian.

Now UK newspaper The Mirror reports the Hollywood star is putting together plans to make his political interests more official after his fall nuptials with his fiancée, British lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

“He has big ambitions and aims to get into politics imminently,” a source said. "He wants to do more humanitarian work and hopes to join the Democrats’ 2016 election campaign.”

George has yet to substantiate claims he intends to run for office. The actor has previously dismissed such rumours, insisting in 2012 he had “no interest” in pursuing politics in an official capacity.

“There’s a guy in office who is smarter than anybody,” he said at the time.

But The Mirror claims Amal, 36, may have had a large influence on George’s decision to chase a different career path, as one of the lawyers who represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

“George is thinking of how he can get more involved,” the insider said. "Now he has Amal by his side it will give him more credibility to run for office.”

The Monuments Men star and his newly-engaged bride-to-be are meanwhile rumoured to be planning a September wedding.

The ceremony is thought to be taking place at George’s home in Lake Como, Italy.
