Coleman: Smith's exit was brutal

Jenna Coleman has said that filming Matt Smith's final scenes on Doctor Who before the Time Lord regenerated as Peter Capaldi was "brutal".

The actress who plays the Doctor's assistant was speaking to Daybreak and according to Digital Spy said she had found waving goodbye to her series pal a traumatic experience.

She said: "I knew it was going to be sad, but it was really traumatic. It was very emotional and overwhelming."

Jenna, 27, explained that the nature of the programme, with an ever-changing cast, could be "so brutal".

She said: "It's a strange thing [but] it's the nature of the show. Matt leaves, Peter arrives in his costume and the scene carries on. You just keep going - that's the show."
