Cooper stirs up a Bond TV role

Dominic Cooper looks set to play Ian Fleming

Dominic Cooper is in talks to play James Bond creator-author Ian Fleming in a TV biopic.

The Mamma Mia! star could be taking the lead role in the four-part mini-series for Sky Atlantic, reported Variety.

Directed by Mat Whitecross and written by John Brownlow and Don Macpherson, the small screen show is tentatively titled Fleming and will take place during World War 2, when the writer worked for British Naval intelligence against the Nazis.

It was his experiences during the war that inspired the creation of secret agent James Bond (now portrayed by Daniel Craig) and influenced the series of books.

Dominic, who was last seen in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will next appear in thriller Dead Man Down with Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace and drama Summer In February alongside Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens and Emily Browning.

The 34-year-old is also in talks to join Aaron Paul in the video game adaptation Need For Speed and espionage thriller November Man opposite former Bond star Pierce Brosnan.

Fleming isn't the only Ian biopic in the works, with Moon director Duncan Jones also developing a film based on his time with British intelligence, and has been given the full support of the Ian Fleming Estate.
