Corden in the dark on Brits timing

James Corden had to interrupt Adele's acceptance speech at last year's Brits

Brit Awards host James Corden says he has no idea if organisers have a contingency plan in case the live event overruns again this year.

Last year the presenter came in for flak when he had to interrupt Adele's acceptance speech for the biggest award of the night, best album, due to time pressures.

In an interview with Radio 1's Newsbeat, James claimed the team behind the live show had no plans in place last year if timing did not go to plan.

And he said was not aware of any further safeguards if the timing goes awry at Wednesday night's show.

At the 2012 bash, James had to butt in on Adele seconds after she took the stage for her climactic win because time was tight following a rambling acceptance speech by Blur's Damon Albarn.

James said: "Most awards shows have a planned strategy for that and normally bring an orchestra in or something. And no one at the Brits had thought about it, and we didn't have a faceless orchestra."

Asked whether there is a plan in place this year, he said: "I hope so - I haven't really asked. Maybe I should have a ring around.

"Hopefully we'll be okay. I haven't given it a huge amount of thought. I hope that we'll just run on time."

The event is being staged at London's O2 Arena with performances from stars such as Justin Timberlake, One Direction and Robbie Williams. Emeli Sande and Muse are also among the guest acts on the night.

Mumford & Sons, Alt J and singer songwriter Sande go into the ceremony with three nominations each.
