James Corden has signed a deal to star in a new six-part comedy-thriller series for BBC2.
Recently-married James wrote the series - called The Wrong Mans - with Gavin & Stacey pal Mathew Baynton, who will also co-star in the half-hour episodes.
In the tale, to be filmed next year, office workers Sam (Mathew) and Phil (James) become caught up in a criminal conspiracy after stumbling across a ringing phone at the scene of a horrific car crash.
The BBC said: "They are in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong skills."
James landed a Tony Award for his Broadway run of One Man, Two Guvnors in June. He has also hosted his comedy sport quiz A League Of Their Own for Sky, and starred as the mouse in a BBC adaptation of The Gruffalo's Child last year but is best known for his role as Smithy in Gavin & Stacey.
Mathew is a recognisable face from CBBC hit Horrible Histories and played Smithy's dimwit mate Deano.
He said: "James and I dreamt up The Wrong Mans during a break on the set of Gavin & Stacey four years ago.
Mathew said he was excited "to finally make it a reality".
Executive producer Mark Freeland said: "We are trying to do a comedy with explosions, a lot of running about, murder, extortion, friendship and love. I cannot wait - but I'm glad I'm not doing the running about bit."
