Corey Taylor on Slipknot break

Corey Taylor

Corey Taylor needed to take time out from Slipknot to "chill" and "recharge".

The lead singer of the heavy metal band admits that after the past couple of years’ gruelling festival circuits, he needed to take some time for himself away from the group.

The band has seen several line up changes since its formation in 1995, most recently when long-time member Joey Jordison left the band in December citing personal reasons.

"You know, we took a good chunk of time off, which was good for me; it was good for my head. I mean, it seemed like we'd been kinda bouncing back and forth for the last six years, and a lot of heavy stuff had happened in that time, between tours. It was time to just chill out a little bit," Corey revealed to Britain's Kerrang! magazine.

"I needed it to recharge. It was just getting to the point where I was getting irritable, which I hate being. I didn't want to play live, I didn't want to write... I just needed some time to reset the brain, basically. And luckily we were able to do that."

In the short hiatus that followed, 40-year-old Corey was able to be with his family, including his wife Stephanie Luby and children Griffin and Angeline from previous relationships.

"I was able to hang out with my family, spend some time with my wife and my kids and it was really, really, good," he said.

Corey is also lead vocalist for Stone Sour, who toured the US throughout January and February.

"Damn near every show's been sold out! It's been probably the best tour we've ever done. The reaction has been completely unexpected, and we've had a really, really great time," he gushed.
