Cory Monteith source speaks of 'tragedy'

Cory Monteith's friends were sure he would overcome the "demon" of addiction shortly before his death.

The Glee star was found dead at the age of 31 in a hotel room in Canada on Saturday.

It's suspected an overdose was the cause of death, with the actor having previously been open about his struggle with addiction.

Cory had previously been in rehab at the age of 19 and checked in again in March this year, with his treatment ending on April 26.

“Cory had struggled with that demon of addiction for such a long time, but I really was hopefully after his most recent rehab [in April],” a Glee associate told the Chicago Sun-Times.

“It’s just such a tragedy."

Cory, who is from Calgary, had apparently checked into the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver on July 6 and was scheduled to check out on Saturday.

It's reported hotel staff went to check on him when he missed the noon check out time.

The cause of death is currently unknown, but it's been reported an autopsy has been fast tracked.

Results are expected in the next few days according to E! Online.

"Due to the intense public interest, the toxicology will be expedited," a source from Vancouver Police Dept. told the website.

The tragic news of Cory's death was confirmed on Sunday and since then many stars have taken to Twitter to pass on their condolences.

His on and off-screen girlfriend Lea Michele is said to be "devastated" and appealed for privacy during this difficult time.

Demi Lovato, Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez have all expressed their sadness on social networking sites.
