Cory Monteith's dad discusses drug use

Cory Monteith's father has spoken out about his son's drug use, and has revealed his mother was beginning to "pick up" on the signs he was using.

The Glee star was found dead in a Canadian hotel room on Saturday after taking a lethal dose of heroin and alcohol.

Cory's family reportedly held a private viewing in Vancouver on Tuesday, with relatives including the actor’s mother, Ann, his brother, Shaun, and girlfriend, Lea Michele.

His estranged father Joe was not included in the service, and has now spoken out about his son's struggle with addiction.

“I guess he was involved a little more in drugs than anybody knew at the time,” he told Entertainment Tonight Canada.

“His mother, who was there with him all the time, she started picking up on it. You know, stuff was missing, money here, stuff like that.”

Joe also recalled the shock of learning his beloved son had died. He revealed the news was almost impossible to believe.

“When they did break the news to my wife, she almost fell over. In fact, I had to grab her. And I did ask them again, 'What was that you said?' It didn’t really sink in,” he said.

Cory's father spoke out earlier this week on missing his son's cremation.

"I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very, very much. I'm saddened at the fact that I couldn't have been there to see my son before he was cremated,” Joe said.

Joe is divorced from Cory’s mother.

The 31-year-old's body was reportedly released to her on Tuesday.

Cory had been open about his struggle with addiction, and entered rehab in March this year after a relapse.
