Simon Cowell is looking forward to having his first child with American socialite Lauren Silverman.

The TV mogul is expecting his first child with American socialite Lauren Silverman.

The baby news bubbled to the surface amid scandal earlier this month as Lauren was married at the time to Simon’s longtime friend, businessman Andrew Silverman.

The former couple, who share a seven-year-old son, swiftly settled their divorce, according to TMZ.

Until now Simon has remained tight-lipped about the matter, admitting only that it remains a sensitive issue for those involved.

The former X Factor judge has now broken his silence about impending fatherhood and admits he’s ecstatic about having a little girl or boy.

“[I’m] proud to be a dad,” he told BBC News at One Direction’s film premiere in Leicester Square Tuesday.

“Things are changing in my life right now. [It’s] something I haven’t thought of before and now I know I feel good about it,” he said.

Simon also took the opportunity to compliment the future mother of his child.

The pair are rumoured to be still seeing each other romantically and Simon gave no indication to the contrary when he gushed: “She’s a very special girl.”

Lauren is said to be expecting the couple’s first child in February.

The 53-year-old declined to elaborate on how far along she is or if he knows the gender of the baby, commenting only, “I can’t say.”
