Cowell: Britney has star power
Britney Spears would find the US X Factor "a walk in the park", Simon Cowell has said.
The TV mogul, who is finalising the judging panel for the second series of the talent show, reckons that rumoured additions Britney and Janet Jackson have what it takes for the job, while insisting that he could neither confirm nor deny the stories.
Speaking "hypothetically" about the pop star, he told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush: "I'm fascinated by [Britney]. The fact that she's one of the most talked about - not just pop stars - but people in the world today, means that you've got this star power.
"This girl has got resilience. I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, [X Factor would be] a walk in the park," he added.
As for Janet, Simon said: "Would she be a good judge? Yes."
The duo are said to be in the running to take the seats left free by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Welsh host Steve Jones has also been given the axe.
"The me and Paula thing was too reminiscent of what we'd seen in the past... and the network felt quite strongly that there needed to be a bigger separation. I understand the argument, even though I would have liked to have kept Paula," he said of the former American Idol judge.
Simon remained tight-lipped over Nicole's exit, saying: "I don't know what the exact reason was, because people liked her."
