Cuoco ‘can’t stomach’ pit bull controversy
Kaley Cuoco was nauseated over an article describing pits as “violent”.
The 28-year-old Big Bang Theory actress is the proud mum of three pits, Shirley, Loretta and Norman.
But when an article was published in TIME magazine this week discussing the breeding of violent animals, Kaley took such offense she had to take a break from social media.
“Many of u asked if I read the #time article about ‘killer pit bulls’. I just did. have to take a twitter break. Can’t stomach this anymore,” she tweeted.
The article in question, entitled The Problem With Pit Bulls, has stirred up a heated debate about the place of the breed in modern society.
The writer, Charlotte Alter, begins by describing a recent incident in which an employee at fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken asked a young girl to leave the eatery, insisting “her face is disrupting our customers”.
A spokesperson for the chain later issued a public apology. However, the author raises what she feels is the larger issue in the situation.
“It's horrible that KFC kicked out that 3-year-old girl, but let's focus on the real problem: pit bulls were bred to be violent,” she writes.
While the piece did not sit well with Kaley, it’s not the first time she’s spoken out for pit bulls.
The actress took to Twitter in 2012, insisting she was “heartbroken” after her friend Kelly Ripa remarked on her US chat show Live With Kelly and Michael that a gangster would have a “dangerous, pit bull kind of dog”.
Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres a few months later, she gushed over her pups: “I love them. I think they’re the greatest dogs in the world… the friendliest, sweetest – I think it’s all in how you raise them.”
