Currie faces I'm A Celebrity ordeal
Former MP Edwina Currie - who joins I'm A Celebrity... tonight - has predicted her political enemies will be trying to keep her in the show for as long as possible to prolong her misery.
The one-time junior health minister will head into the jungle with X Factor reject Jake Quickenden and will add the programme to her tally of TV contests which already includes Strictly Come Dancing and Hell's Kitchen.
Currie said she has decided to go on the show because she wants to continue having adventures at her stage of life.
"I am 68 and I like having adventures. If an advanced stage of life is not an adventure, then you might as well give up on everything. This will certainly be something I have never experienced before," she said.
Asked about how other politicians will view her participation, she said: "If there is any logic in politics - which there isn't - my political opponents will be voting for me to stay in and my political friends will be going 'no let's get her home as quick as we can'."
Currie revealed she once heard fellow Tory politician Neil Hamilton - whose wife had been a contestant - attempting to explain the show to hard-of-hearing Baroness Thatcher.
"He was trying to explain to a very elderly Margaret Thatcher what it was all about and she couldn't hear very well. He told her the title of the show, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! - 'Neil', she said, 'you have only been here a few minutes, surely you can stay a bit longer?"
The late Tory leader's own daughter Carol went on to take part in the 2005 series.
Currie said she is a magnet for bugs, and tucking into nasties during the bushtucker trials could be a way of getting her own back.
She said: "What does also worry me are the bugs like mosquitoes - they always find me and they eat me. Actually eating them will feel like revenge."
Quickenden, 26, said he had no hesitation in agreeing to take part just weeks after his X Factor dreams were shattered.
"Things like this don't happen to me. I am just a normal bloke," he said.
"I am going to take this opportunity with both hands. I want to relish everything that is thrown at me. I actually haven't stopped grinning since I got offered this."
