Willem Dafoe was prey to a Spider-Man style burglary after thieves used ropes and climbing gear to break into his Rome apartment and swipe a haul of jewellery.
The Oscar-nominated actor - who played villain the Green Goblin in the Spider-Man movies - was away filming in New Mexico when cat burglars lowered themselves from the roof of the building into the top-floor property he shares with his Italian actress wife, Giada Colagrande, police have confirmed to the New York Daily Post.
An unnamed American friend of the couple was in the apartment and told police she heard the alarm system go off.
A police representative in Rome said the stolen goods included "jewellery, but we are waiting for the owner to return to draw up a full list."
Willem's rep said around 3,000 dollars worth of items had been taken.
