Dakota Johnson and John Boyega are among the acting newcomers in competition for the Rising Star prize at the 2016 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress and the British star, who shot to fame in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, go up against Kingsman: The Secret Service actor Taron Egerton, and Brie Larson, who is currently scoring awards recognition for captivity drama Room.

Rounding out the shortlist is British actress Bel Powley, who starred in A Royal Night Out and The Diary of a Teenage Girl last year (15).

Johnson, who also starred in gangster drama Black Mass, says, "I am thoroughly stunned and honoured to be acknowledged with an EE Rising Star Award nomination. Thank you, I am truly grateful."

Boyega adds, "Thank you to Bafta and the jury. I'm honoured to be considered for the EE Rising Star Award in this company. What a great way to start the new year."

Previous recipients include James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, and Kristen Stewart.

The winner will be decided by public vote and announced at the London ceremony on 14 February (16).
